Japanese style

As you know, the first tattoos appeared in Japan about 2500 years ago. At different times, they were used by people from the most diverse segments of society, since they were very popular. Most often the tattoo could be seen on the body of the poor. In those days, such tattoos had ritual content. Beginning from the 16th century, the tattoos had a more decorative meaning and nobody paid much attention to it. Such designs on the body are beginning to be applied by artisans, cheaters and members of Yakuza. As you know, in today's Japan, tattoos are very suspicious and do not hurry to put them.

«Irezumi» is a classic Japanese style. It dates back to the 17th century and is related to the criminal world. Earlier, people who got into jail, were obliged to put «brand». That is why, in order to conceal this mark, on the basis of freedom, the prisoners made their own tattoos.

Features of the style

Today it is known that the traditional Japanese style from the other can be distinguished:

  • large area of tattoos;
  • asymmetric execution of forms;
  • a large number of other small drawings on the background of one large;
  • the main drawing is figurative;
  • motifs are surrounded by a decorative contour;
  • іufficiently saturated shades.

Previously, the basis of such Japanese tattoos took different stories, tales and maritime legends, where the main characters were dragons, doves and samurai. Today it is also a very common phenomenon, but at the same time, people like to portray the geisha, various masks, gods and other elements of eastern culture.

Irezumi allows you to completely cover your back, hands, hips and breasts. That is why the work on such a tattoo is performed for a long time, in some cases, for several years. The plot is selected according to the design of the body, so in the final version the picture will look like an open cape or kimono.

The historic Japanese style was performed according to four themes: religion, mythology, flora and fauna. These tattoos are unique because they have a very deep sense. The entire color scheme used in the drawing is centered around black and red shades. Bronze, green and other vivid colors are also commonly used, but this is very rare.

Technology of execution

As you know, following the tradition, Japanese masters of tattoos work without electric machines. This is due to the fact that mechanical devices do not allow to achieve a qualitative result and significantly reduce the prestige of the author. Instead, the masters do their job using a bamboo sticks with needles at the ends. Different number of needles are used at the same time for drawing. When the whole work is done, the artist makes a pigmentation using a device that consists of thirty needles.
